Mall Reconnaissance

When I was at the mall last week, I passed by American Eagle and was intrigued by some of the window displays. AE is another store I had not set foot into for a long time. I admit that I thought that ship had sailed for me after I donated the last of my beach week tube tops to goodwill. I have to say I found a few really great pieces. They can also be found on the AE website.

Vintage Blazer - $69.50

Striped Slim Cardigan - $34.95

Soft Moto Jacket - $79.95 (this is very similar to the Splendid version I was stalking, it retails for $165)

BR Vintage Inspired Jewels

I stopped by Banana Republic today to check out the new fall inventory. I wasn't blown away by the bulk of the collection but I am absolutely crazy about their new jewelry. I literally had to hold back from buying the entire case. I have always been a fan of BR jewelry, I think it is fashion forward but reasonably priced. It lasts as long as you would expect jewelry of that price point to last. In my opinion, the newest additions are the best I have seen by them yet.

Check it out, there are more styles in stores than shown online. If you have a BR card, you get 40% today and tomorrow in stores. The fall sale starts on Friday and the saleswoman told me she thinks a lot of the new jewelry will be included.

Multi-chain and Locket $44.99

Fringed Chain Necklace $42

Shimmering Fringe Earring $29.99

Resin Circle Earring $39.99

Piperlime Adds Apparel

If you didn't already know, Gap's Piperlime brand now carries apparel in addition to shoes. The nice thing about Piperlime is that they consider themselves trusted editors of fashion rather than just an everything but the kitchen sink site. The merchandisers try to narrow down their selection so as to give shoppers a wide array of brands without overwhelming. The site is easy to search and they offer free shipping and returns. Here are some favorites.

MM Couture Short Sleeve Basic Knit Long Cardigan $70

Ella Moss Tallulah Dress $117 (consider adding a belt to add shape)

BB Dakota Leona Plaid Coat $110

Cynthia Vincent Fur Collar Vest $323 (a classy and understated way to partake in the fall fur trend)

Big Buddha Handbags

While researching brands for my store, I came across the handbag company, Big Buddha. Big Buddha has mastered the art of combining classic styles with accessibility and they don't look too cheap. I highly recommend their bags. You can find them at www.ebags.com.

I think the Big Buddha Alana Bag is a great addition to the wardrobe. The bag comes in five colors including black, turquoise, yellow, white and orange (my favorite). With the code INSTYLE09, the Alana is only $72.

I have always liked the Taylor Bag too, it retails for $95.

The Lara is great too at $95, I love the navy.

West Coast Fashion

I spent last weekend at a wedding in Laguna Beach. Unfortunately, I didn't spot LC, Kristen or any of the others but I did check out what is in style on the West Coast. The majority of the stores I saw were not "preppy" enough for my taste but I did see some great pieces. I still don't understand the Ed Hardy/tattoo looks that were everywhere, but that's just me.

One of the stores that I found that had cute stuff is called Elle H. Here were some of my favorites.

Twinkle by Wenlan $387

Corey Lynn Calter $203

Mike & Chris $85

They are online and the outlet portion is having a sale until September 7th with 75% off most items! www.elleh.com
